This is SPARTAAAA!

Apparently my fan is clamoring for a new blog post. The pressure to not disappoint is on!

Holidays are not something I get overly excited about. To me, Christmas is a huge panic attack inducing event. The thought of Thanksgiving is fantastic. But in reality, it’s an excuse to make my already bulbous tush more bulbous. Valentine’s Day…forget it. I told Boyfriend if he ever made a big deal about V-Day, he would be ridiculed mercilessly for an undetermined long length of time. I don’t need a day to tell me that I have to profess my love. That is something I try to do more often than once a year.

Please don’t think I am a huge party-pooper. I do make holidays special events for my kids. But to me, it is more important that I am there for the every day things.

Like today…I had to cancel a doctor appointment and push back work to attend a field trip I was not made aware of until 7AM this morning. (Kindergarteners are not the best at relaying messages or remembering to not lose a note from school.) Oh! And I have to figure out how to get a sack lunch made that does not involve peanut butter. (Seriously…I very much appreciate the severity of a peanut allergy. Can we not plan a field trip that lacks refrigeration but requires a lunch? I don’t want the little mystery kid sent to the hospital, so what the crap do I pack?!?)

That being said, Mother’s Day was this weekend. I got my kids’ presents on Saturday because Clay had a race and I didn’t know what time he would be back on Sunday.

Clayton made a project a school that had a picture of him glued to a piece of construction paper. Underneath was typed:

“Dear Mother, I love you because she makes me my favorite potato chip casserole. Love , Clayton”

Good to know I have some useful skills.  And he’s right, my potato chip casserole rocks!

He also made me a potted flower that doubles as a recipe card holder…very cute!

Shelby’s teacher had taken pictures of the kids once a month since the beginning of school. They then compiled these into a calendar. It was so sweet to see how much she has grown since the beginning of the school year. She also made me a card. Inside it said:

From my heart to yours.

Dear Mom, I want to wish you a happy Mother’s day. What makes you special is how you will do anything in your power to protect us. You always have a roof over us and you supplies us with food water and every thing we need. I WANT TO WISH YOU A HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! Love, Shelby

Wow…The sentiment is so sweet.  But I was a little alarmed.  I do everything in my power to protect them?  I am apparently a Spartan of the Trailerhood!  And supply them with food water?  I don’t know what food water is, but it sounds like something you get in a prison.  Between Hairy Muffin and this, I’m sure her teacher has quite an impression of me!

The kids were home all Mother’s Day after all.  It was a nice and we added a new member to our household by the time the day was done.  We adopted a Manchester Terrier and named him Heyzeus.  He will come home Saturday after his alterations are complete and have a couple days of healing behind him.  I will post pictures as soon as he’s home.  I’m sure the stories of how Maggie will adjust will be as entertaining as her other adventures.  I will keep you posted!

Good luck with the terrier. They tend to be a bit…energetic.

That movie should have been called 600, not 300. More than enough man-nipples to last me a lifetime.

Anyway, as long as you don’t go around protecting them in a loin cloth and a cape, I think you’ll be alright.

Awww, your kids are so sweet!

I wish they still made Mother’s Day gifts in middle school! I can imagine the cards I’d get now… “Happy Mother’s Day. I love you. No, I hate you! Okay, I love you. Thanks for being a great mother! Thanks A LOT FOR RUINING MY LIFE by letting my brother eat my Go-gurt!”

(I guess my message is, middle school is a lot like schizophrenia!)
